John Welwood is a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, teacher, and author. He has also been a practitioner of Buddhism and Eastern contemplative psychologies for 40 years.
In the 1980s he emerged as a major contributor to the leading-edge fields of transpersonal psychology and East-West psychology. He is the former director of the East-West psychology program at the California Institute of Integral Studies and is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology.
John’s current teaching is largely focused on embodied psychospiritual work, training health professionals in psychological work in a spiritual context. Trained also in existential psychology, he worked closely with Eugene Gendlin at the University of Chicago, where he received his PhD in clinical psychology.
He has published more than 50 articles on relationship, psychotherapy, consciousness, and personal change, as well as eight books, including Journey of the Heart: The Path of Conscious Love, Love and Awakening, Toward a Psychology of Awakening, Awakening the Heart, Ordinary Magic, and Perfect Love, Imperfect Relationships: Healing the Wound of the Heart.
