Venerable Tenzin Chogkyi, an ordained Buddhist nun and dharma teacher, has been studying and practicing Buddhism for more than 30 years. In 1991 she bought a one-way ticket to India and became a student of the Dalai Lama, Kirti Tsenshab Rinpoche, and Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
In 2006, she completed a six-year solitary meditation retreat and since then has been teaching at Buddhist centers in North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. She is a visiting teacher for the Liberation Prison Project, having taught Buddhist meditation and philosophy in prisons in the United States, Colombia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Tenzin Chogkyi is also a certified teacher of Cultivating Emotional Balance, a secular program for dealing with emotions, developed by B. Alan Wallace and Paul Ekman at the Dalai Lama’s request. She is passionate about prison reform, animal rights, and bringing an end to human trafficking and other modern forms of slavery.
