Exploring the Legacy of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Transcendental Meditation
August 6-11, 2017
Sunday-Friday, 5 nights
CE Credits available
Plus 5 nights all-inclusive accommodations priced separately below.
As someone trained in Transcendental Meditation™ (TM) as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, you are part of a unique network with a shared foundation of practice. This week, you can come together with fellow meditators and TM teachers to deepen your experience and reflect on the history of Maharishi’s work and the nuances of his teachings.
This reunion is not an official TM program, but is a chance to gather together—whether you learned TM 40 years or 40 days ago, whether or not you stayed with it, and whether or not you are currently affiliated with the TM organization.
Structured like a traditional TM residence course, the week consists of morning and afternoon “roundings” (cycles of asanas, pranayama, and meditation), plus presentations, discussions, and audios.
Dana and Phil were made teachers by Maharishi in the 1970s and became scholars and authors in related fields. They will share vital lessons from their decades of research and experience and will facilitate respectful, inclusive, non-doctrinaire conversations.
Bring an open heart and a curious mind to this special gathering of the TM tribe.
Philip Goldberg is an author, public speaker, and ordained interfaith minister who has been studying India’s spiritual traditions for nearly 50 years, with a particular emphasis on Hinduism, Vedanta, and yoga.
Trained by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as a Transcendental Meditation teacher in 1970, Philip helped establish Maharishi International University in the 1970s. He is a screenwriter and author or coauthor of 19 nonfiction books and one novel, and has penned numerous essays for magazines and websites.
Philip’s books include the award-winning American Veda: From Emerson and the Beatles to Yoga and Meditation. A popular lecturer and workshop leader, he has spoken and taught at universities, retreat centers, yoga festivals, and other venues throughout the United States, India, and elsewhere.
He is a member of the Writers Guild of America and the Authors Guild, and blogs regularly for the Huffington Post and Spirituality & Health, and is cohost of the Spirit Matters podcast.
Dana Sawyer is professor of religion and philosophy at the Maine College of Art and the author of two critically acclaimed spiritual biographies, one of Aldous Huxley and another of Huston Smith.
Early in his career he researched a sect of Hindu swamis descended from the philosopher of Advaita Vedanta Adi Shankara, which brought him to India 13 times, where he often lived in monasteries and meditated with the monks.
In graduate school, his interest broadened to include Buddhist and Zen practices. In 1975 Maharishi Mahesh Yogi made him a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. He has written articles on a wide range of topics related to Hinduism, Buddhism, consciousness expansion, and mysticism for academic journals and numerous magazines, including Parabola, Tricycle, and Yoga Journal.
In addition to teaching in academia, Dana leads popular workshops at many centers of psychological, spiritual, and philosophical inquiry, including the Esalen Institute and Kripalu Center.
Tulsi Bagnoli is a fourth-generation meditator whose initiation into yoga and meditation came from her parents, who were teachers of Transcendental Meditation (TM).
From the age of four, she would sit with them for morning and evening sadhana (practice). At 20, she became a TM and hatha yoga teacher and continued to practice and teach while attending the Maharishi University of Management, where she completed a master’s degree in Vedic science with an emphasis in Sanskrit chanting.
Tulsi is a certified teacher in the lineage of T. Krishnamacharya, and for six months she taught and studied in India while completing a 300-hour Sattva Yoga teacher training in the foothills of the Himalayas. Deeply passionate about the roots of yoga, Tulsi conducts her classes based on each student’s need, so every class is a unique experience in self-exploration. She has been teaching yoga and meditation throughout the United States and India for more than a decade.
