The Face, Emotion, and Compassionate Connection

1440 Multiversity 800 Bethany Drive Scotts Valley,CA 95066

The human face reveals our deepest feelings. Yet often we are so involved in our own emotional reactions that we overlook signs from others that could lead to more compassionate connection.

Until we learn to interpret facial cues and cultivate awareness of our own facial expressions, much of this information is not readily accessible to us. This groundbreaking workshop teaches science-based skills training on emotion and facial expression.

Erika Rosenberg is a world-renowned expert in the facial expression of emotion and a senior teacher at Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education. During this fascinating experiential weekend, she integrates the science of facial expression with meditation-based training in mindfulness and compassion.

You will experience lecture, small group discussion, interaction in pairs, meditation, and role-playing to learn not only what other people’s faces send out, but also how your own reactions might be received in turn.

You will learn:

  • How the face gives unique access to emotional experiences
  • To recognize universal facial expressions
  • The meaning behind non-verbal behaviors and how to read what other people are feeling
  • Awareness of the impact of the facial expressions you exhibit when you respond to others
  • Facial awareness to increase openness and responsiveness to others.

You will leave with access to a deepened presence with others and skillfulness in navigating the terrain of social interaction for enhanced connection in your personal and professional life.
