The human face reveals our deepest feelings. Yet often we are so involved in our own emotional reactions that we overlook signs from others that could lead to more compassionate connection.
Until we learn to interpret facial cues and cultivate awareness of our own facial expressions, much of this information is not readily accessible to us. This groundbreaking workshop teaches science-based skills training on emotion and facial expression.
Erika Rosenberg is a world-renowned expert in the facial expression of emotion and a senior teacher at Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education. During this fascinating experiential weekend, she integrates the science of facial expression with meditation-based training in mindfulness and compassion.
You will experience lecture, small group discussion, interaction in pairs, meditation, and role-playing to learn not only what other people’s faces send out, but also how your own reactions might be received in turn.

Erika Rosenberg is a scientist and meditation teacher. At the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain, she is senior investigator on the Shamatha Project, a multi-disciplinary study of how intensive meditation affects cognition, emotion, and neurophysiology.
Dr. Erika Rosenberg is a world-renowned expert in the Facial Action Coding System and trains and consults with academic, corporate, and entertainment industry clients worldwide.
A senior teacher at Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, she contributed substantially to the development of the Compassion Cultivation Training program with Thupten Jinpa, which she offered at Google Inc., and presented to the Dalai Lama.
Dr. Rosenberg is also faculty at the Tibetan Nyingma Institute and has offered meditation trainings in diverse international venues. She is coauthor of the textbook Psychology: Perspectives and Connections with Paul Ekman and author of numerous scientific articles and book chapters.
