Becoming a mother is a precious time, filled with many questions and expectations. Expand your skills to be able to offer the gift of expert support to mothers-to-be.
This comprehensive 45-hour yoga training with Jane Austin—midwife, doula, and leading pre- and postnatal yoga teacher of the Bay Area—provides you with the experience and knowledge you need to teach yoga with confidence and compassion to women in all stages of pregnancy and the early stages of postpartum.
Through hands-on experience, physical movement, lecture, and group discussion, you will explore yoga as a tool to help others prepare for childbirth and meet the challenges of motherhood.
You will learn:
- Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy
- Effects of pregnancy on the body
- Psychology of pregnancy and birth
- Benefits of yoga in pregnancy and beyond
- How to sequence a prenatal and postnatal class
- Postures to relieve common discomforts
- Which poses are contraindicated (what to avoid)
- Appropriate pranayama (breath work) practices
- Yoga for labor
- Mom and baby yoga.
In addition to the modified postures and special sequences that you will be able to teach, you will leave this training with a greater understanding of relevant hot topics, including prenatal bonding, how to navigate cultural attitudes about birth, medical and holistic models of care, postpartum issues, resource building, nutrition, and natural remedies for pregnancy and beyond.

Things to Know

All participants must have completed a 200-hour basic teacher training or have at least three years of yoga practice. All participants must have a working knowledge of basic alignment principles.
Some experience required.
This training qualifies as continuing education if you are registered with Yoga Alliance, or the hours can be applied to the Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher designation (RPYT) with Yoga Alliance.

Mama Tree is a certified Yoga Alliance prenatal yoga school. All participants will receive a copy of Prenatal Yoga with Jane Austin DVD, as well a training binder with additional materials and resources. A certificate of completion will be awarded upon completion of the 45-hour training and successful completion of take-home exam and book report.
