Program Description

Interpersonal relationships are the ultimate source of happiness or misery. What are the factors that determine whether partners will end up experiencing love and fulfillment in their relationships or suffering pain and distress?

This workshop helps you answer that question by providing a theoretical model that integrates attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, and separation theory. In this eye-opening weekend, psychology and relationship experts Dr. Lisa Firestone, PhD, and Joyce Catlett, MA, impart a critical road map for developing and maintaining intimacy.

The weekend begins by collectively defining love-what it is and what it is not. Then, through lecture, video excerpts, role-play, and group discussion, you will:

• Practice how to help you or clients challenge defensive behaviors and "critical inner voices"-remnants of attachment patterns that interfere with closeness and intimacy
• Observe the developmental factors that impact partner selection and inform ways of relating to them
• Utilize the elements of emotion-focused therapy along with innovative cognitive/affective/behavioral therapy to address adult attachment issues
• Recognize the foundation of "healthy sexuality" and how to enhance the sexual component of an intimate relationship
• Explain what elements go into choosing better partners or working to better current relationships that you or clients are in
• Describe the steps in Voice Therapy as applied to couples.

This workshop is valuable for those working in mental health, as it provides effective techniques to incorporate into your practice.
