Chenjerai Kumanyika, PhD Journalist, activist, audio producer, and Rutgers University professor

Chenjerai Kumanyika is a journalist, activist, and researcher who works as an assistant professor in Rutgers University's Department of Journalism and Media Studies. His research and teaching focus on the intersections of social justice and emerging media in the cultural and creative industries.

Chenjerai is the co-executive producer and cohost of the Peabody award-winning history podcast Uncivil, Gimlet Media's podcast on the Civil War. He is also a consultant and guest contributor to Scene on Radio's Peabody nominated Seeing White series.

His writing has appeared in journals such as Popular Music and Society, Popular Communication, and Technology, Pedagogy and Education. His 2015 article, "Vocal Color in Public Radio" produced for spawned a nationwide discussion on diversity and voices in public media.

Chenjerai is a featured contributor to media such as Transom, NPR's Code Switch, All Things Considered, Invisibilia, The Moth, and VICE. He's also a news analyst for Rising Up with Sonali, a radio program hosted by Sonali Kolhatkar.
