Gary Marcoccia, Wilderness expedition leader, science educator

Gary Marcoccia is a wilderness expedition leader and tenured professor of natural and applied sciences from Santa Cruz, California. He has led expeditions around the globe for more than two decades: from deep jungle treks and volcano climbs to traversing the Pyrenees and making first-descent, white-water kayak runs.

Having taught for wilderness outfitters, retreat venues, and institutions of higher education, Gary has made significant curriculum contributions to the field of wilderness education. His teaching highlights practices from a variety of wisdom traditions and cultures, with an emphasis on how they connect to the natural world.

A keen naturalist, ultra-runner, adventurer, kite surfer, and mountaineer, Gary's biggest passion in life is teaching people how they can nourish their mind, body, and spirit through time spent in the wilds.
