Sophia Rokhlin, Author, speaker, and nonprofit organizer

Sophia Rokhlin bridges the worlds of indigenous ecological knowledge and Western science through engaged botany and ecology. Her mission is to unite the culture of personal transformation with environmental remediation and Earth stewardship.

Sophia currently serves as program coordinator at the Chaikuni Institute and directs the sustainable ayahuasca cultivation program at the Temple of the Way of Light, a Shipibo plant medicine retreat center in the Peruvian Amazon. She also works with several psychedelic harm reduction programs such as Kosmicare and serves as an advisor on the Ayahuasca Community Committee for the Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines.

Her past collaborations include working with the Environmental Justice Atlas during her graduate research in ecological economics. There she contributed to open-source reporting on the impact of expansion of palm oil (Elaeis guineensis) plantations on women in indigenous communities.

Sophia is a coauthor of When Plants Dream: Ayahuasca, Amazonian Shamanism, and the Global Psychedelic Renaissance, exploring the cultural, economic, and ecological aspects of the global spread of ayahuasca.

In 2020, she will join comedian Shane Mauss for his nationwide tour Head Talks, educating the public about the medical, ecological, and cultural value of psychedelic plants.
