Explore the power of food through open-enrollment education classes led by Culinary Arts Education Faculty in the campus Teaching Kitchen. Community members are invited to register for a variety of open-enrollment interactive discussions and hands-on learning experiences. These programs and workshops are designed for all skill levels and are ideal for individuals looking to deepen their culinary knowledge and learn new techniques onsite at 1440’s philanthropic campus — while connecting with others in a vibrant community setting.

All workshops are facilitated by expert 1440 faculty and adjunct instructors, blending inspiration, education, and wellness to help you better understand how to use food as medicine in every session.

Food has the power to transform lives, and the 1440 Teaching Kitchen brings that idea to life through immersive culinary educational experiences. From hour-long signature classes to multi-day programs, registered participants are provided the opportunity to explore and study food, nutrition, and a multitude of ingredients in new and meaningful ways. Led by our 1440 culinary faculty and adjunct instructors, these learning programs incorporate lectures, seminars, workshops, interactive discussions, and practical kitchen skills to inspire curiosity and connection for the seasoned cook and curious beginner. 

Group Cooking Classes

Group Cooking Classes

Gathering to cook in community is at the heart of 1440’s Live Well learning pillar. Organizations, colleagues, and neighbors collectively learn to use fresh ingredients and a variety of kitchen tools in dynamic, hands-on cooking experiences. During these classes, groups may participate in cooking challenges, harvest ingredients from campus gardens, or gather herbs from various locations around the property – all intended to improve interpersonal communication while sparking creativity and camaraderie. Prepare a meal together or explore new culinary techniques; all learning program curriculum is designed to inspire and strengthen authentic relationship bonds, making the kitchen a memorable space for learning and growth in community.

1440 believes the best way to build a strong foundation of food knowledge is through fun, hands-on experiences in the garden. We welcome student field trips, youth education groups, and discovery days to explore our culinary garden, where nature becomes the classroom. Students are led by 1440 faculty to engage directly with seasonal ingredients being grown in Joanie’s Garden and educated through guided discussions, interactive tours, and age-appropriate activities designed to spark curiosity and excitement. 

Whether planting, harvesting, or tasting, learners of all ages gain a deeper appreciation for food, sustainability, and the environment. Each visit to the Teaching Kitchen and Joanie's Garden Classroom provides an enriching experience that connects culinary learning with the natural world to create healthy and nutritional eating habits.

Charitable Dinners

Charitable Dinners

The community is invited participate in farm-to-table garden dinners featuring a food as medicine philosophy that support a variety of charitable partners. Enjoy a locally sourced multi-course gourmet meal inspired by a variety of global cuisines prepared by 1440 chefs, in an intimate open-air setting. Watch, learn, and interact with our faculty during these inspired dining experiences that intentionally connect nourishing food, community, and purpose. These benefit dinners are available on a first-come basis and designed to inspire creating hope for living well.
