Hope for Healing

Focusing on Mental Health in the Redwoods

The capacity for hope is one of the greatest gifts we have as human beings, but for those who battle mental health disorders -- as many as one in for people globally -- that optimism can sometimes be hard to fully embrace. In the spirit of the 1440 mission of creating hope for living well, Hope for Healing offers an opportunity to learn about, address, and begin the healing process of mental health disorders so that participants can begin and sustain a path of care and treatment.

Support Mental Health and Healing

The National Institute of Mental Health reports one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness - key findings suggest youth mental health is worsening and suicidal ideation is increasing.  1440 is committed to promoting mental health as a critical part of overall wellness by advocating for prevention services, early identification and intervention for those at risk, care and treatment for those who need it to create hope for living well.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults every year.  Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide - one-half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.  Nearly  75% of people with mental disorders remain untreated in developing countries with almost 1 million people taking their lives each year - according to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 in 13 globally suffers from anxiety.

While these disorders (panic, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, OCD, PTSD, PDD, and more) are highly treatable, only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment and people with an anxiety disorder are six times more likely to be hospitalized.  The Hope for Healing program seeks the generous support of corporate sponsors, foundation grants and donations - every $500,000 affords 1,000 individuals suffering from these disorders to benefit from this life-changing program and destigmatize mental illness.

Start Your Healing Journey

Those diagnosed with and suffering from mental illness are invited to participate in this program for free through a nomination process or sponsorship.  Anxiety disorders are treatable, and the vast majority of people with an anxiety disorder can be helped with professional care.
The Hope for Healing program at 1440 Multiversity will consist of periodic cohorts that include a comprehensive curriculum to address depression, PTSD, suicidal thoughts and promote a stronger sense of belonging and purpose. Addressing specific mental health issues will bring participants closer to one another and help them integrate better into their communities through a range of activities, breathing exercises, medication techniques, community service, and other strategies.
