Terry Real, Family therapist, speaker, and author

Terry Real is a nationally recognized family therapist, author, and teacher known for his groundbreaking work on men and male psychology, gender, and couples.

He has been in private practice for over 25 years and is the founder of the Relational Life Institute (RLI) in Massachusetts—dedicated to working with the general population to help women reclaim their voices and help men open their hearts. RLI offers a training program for therapists as well as workshops and trainings throughout the United States and Canada.

Terry's work has been featured in numerous academic articles and popular media outlets such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20, the Today show, CNN, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Psychology Today, and many others. He has appeared often as the relationship expert for Good Morning America and ABC News.

Terry is the best-selling author of I Don't Want to Talk About It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression—the first book ever written on the topic of male depression. His book How Can I Get Through to You?: Closing the Intimacy Gap Between Men and Women explores the role of patriarchy in relationships. His most recent book is The New Rules of Marriage: What You Need to Know to Make Love Work—a practical guide for couples and couples therapists.
